The teddy fabric is knitted to simulate animal fur with the fibres vertically oriented and this provides a large volume of air trapped in the fabric, and hence a high insulation-to-weight ratio.
The open structure provides very good ventilation and can be used underneath a jacket if wind chill protection is needed.
